Pizza hut is an iconic brand with a highly rated app. Even so, there was room to improve. With a mission to bring the brand vibe and make the exploring, ordering, and rewards experiences even better we got to work. Because, no one out pizzas the hut.
For focus, our team aligned on a set of ⭐️ Principles to help guide us towards our 🥅 Goals.
Pizza Hut's extensive menu options presented the challenge to keeping it simple while still giving customers choices to explore. We ended on a tabbed-scroll to allow for easy way-finding and category pages for explorers to really dig in.
The "category nav" of the menu provided landmarks to customers as they explored the full menu, keeping access to recents and favorites available for regular visitors.
Pizza Hut's unique brand and voice wasn't really making it into digital channels. We couldn't shake the post-game memories to invent the "cup gradient" for the experience. We brought motion to the app to celebrate in the right moments. Refocused in-app photography to be a bit more lifestyle. For Hut Rewards, Pizza Hut's loyalty program, we created a dedicated brand-space for a customer's points, rewards, and everything they could earn after a few more visits.
Oh yeah, and were able to bring more of The Hut's unique tone by using emojis. Amping the fun, lowering the stakes.
From lo-fi to hi-fi with testing all along the way. We worked iteratively to build an experience that met customer expectations while delivering on business goals and for our cross-functional partners.
